Stylus for tablets and phones. Plastic disc tips.

Hello,

Am keen to have a go at making some tablet styluses (stele ? styli ?) for gifts.

Am thinking might look interesting if I cut a thread and wrap/inlay some thick copper wire in the thread, then turn it down again so that it is all one cylindrical flush surface. The copper wire will also give the connection to the tip for the change in capacitance to be enabled in the tablet/phone. Might take some mucking about to get that working. Not sure.

Was wondering where I could buy a packet of 20 or so of these little plastic discs for the tips - see photo. In my google searches I can only find the plastic discs already attached to stalks (expensive), or they come as a spare part if you order the whole stylus.

Any proper keywords I should be using to find the bare plastic discs please ? Or alternately does anyone have a supplier for the plastic discs ? There is approx 1.5mm ball on the tip of the stylus and that slips into a stem with a hole in it on the back of the disc. Would be possible but awkward and tedious to make from rods or scraps of clear plastic like perspex or acrylic.

I know from past experience that the plastic tips can fall off the stalks and be a pain to find again. At $7 a replacement for the entire stalk+disc that's a tadge expensive for me.

I was hoping to be able to buy a box of only the discs and include 5 discs with each stylus to cater for losing a disc.

All my searches yielded similar results to what you found. Either 5 expensive discs on stalks or you can get a couple of spare disc if you buy the whole stylus. Was wondering how to get a small boxfull of the clear plastic discs. I will trawl the pen turning suppliers to see what they call them. I'll carry on googling.

Out of curiosity I typed Mark's search term into Alibaba and there is a seller or two with them. The MOQ is 500 which works out to 30 cents US each. You are all set if you plan on making a lot or selling little baggies of them to other turners. You can poke around the site more to see if anyone has a smaller MOQ.

Thanks very much for the help.

The Aliexpress link from QC looks promising and wasnt showing up in my google searches. Better prices than I was finding.

So thanks again and in future I will use the inbuilt searches in Alibaba and bangood etc. rather than just rely on google, ebay and amazon
