Suggestion for a "Workshop Day"
After reading that Dale was willing to share some knowledge on Photography, and I know Dorno once asked about it, I am suggesting an idea, that we have a WORKSHOP DAY.
Now, this day may need to be repeated or done in each State, to allow as many members benefit from it. ALSO a workshop Day not limited to Pens, but include other phases of Woodworking.
My ideas, so far--
1. Start at 9AM, have an hour of basic photography, enough to improve our photos, and extra 30 minutes for questions/chat ,
2. 10:30 AM cup of tea/chat (you learn a lot from a chat)
3. 10:45 AM Casting/Stabilisation, quick demos and question/answers until 12PM
4. 12PM -1PM lunch and chat
5. 1PM- 1:30PM Sharpening Tools
6. 1:30PM- 2:30PM CA finish on a Pen and on a Bowl
7. 2:30 PM-2:45PM cup of tea
8. 2:45PM to 3:45PM PLease include your suggestions
9. 3:45PM -5pm just mill around and chat--you learn a lot from a chat!
10. Shooo!! go home! it is over for today!!!!!
This is a Suggestion remember, any ideas and further suggestions are welcome. My idea of a place is somewhere near Melbourne central area, ease of accomodation. Time--well let's get the idea rolling 1st. Place, probably a largish place would be best
maybe even one of the Woodwork Clubs would allow us their Clubrooms!!!!

Great idea Amos. Maybe not such a large event as Neil has suggested does already take place, but a more low key event with smaller numbers where you get a chance to get to know fellow Forumites a bit better.
Dale's expertise in photography would be a real bonus for me. Maybe reduce the number of subjects covered with more time on each.
More central to Melbourne would also be a bonus for us on the west side.Dallas

I like the idea for a more low key event with smaller numbers where you get a chance to get to know fellow Forumites a bit better.
I also think two demos/topics are more then adequate for one day. If photography is on the agenda then I would also like to see the best/different ways of preparing the photos for posting on the forum.
Peter.

Depending on numbers it may be more functional to use a smaller venue (aka someone's garage) and do one in the East & one in the West.

Great suggestions, less subjects, more leisurely, more chat , some coffee also!! Photography would be one subject, Different finishes another, maybe some outline of casting, I need a break now----tea or coffee and water! Amos
Or real leisurely, One subject 10AM-12PM lunch and chat until 2:30 and go home and practice!!! AmosGood, better, best, never let it rest;

thanks for adding coffee mate, gotta have a caffeine fix now and then
if in the lead up to the gum bumping event a list of 3,4,5 things were put up as an idea for the event, maybe as a poll, then the 2,3 most popular things could be arranged and laid down for the event
just my 2 cents
thanks Amos
great concept
all the best
