    Default Teasing me

I've got 50 pen blanks all drilled and glued up ready to go. Today I went to trim them on my mini bandsaw, and the blade snapped on the second one! Also bunnings is out of blades in the size I need, so I just have a bunch of gorgeous blanks teasing me from the backyard now! One day soon hopefully...

How much do you need to trim from them ? If I've cut blanks with too much excess for the bushes to ride in the brass tube, I sometimes trim mine on the lathe with a parting tool.

Around here Bunnings are sprinkled in every direction. If it's just your closest/ most convenient store out of stock, maybe you could try further afield.

All good now - I got off my backside and travelled the extra kms to another bunnings where I got the blade needed.

All cut now, and sanded on a disc sander. To reward myself, I put one blank on the lathe, and it exploded on me in the centre of the blank. I guess I should have been more careful, and less excited to finally get them on the lathe.

    Interesting

I couldn't be bothered most times to turn the bandsaw on (or to be realistic to wheel it out and get ready for use)

I mainly use a Japenese crosscut saw to cut my blanks ready for drilling and I can say I've had a bit of exercise

I just trim mine up on the disc of the belt sander. Bad luck with the blank blowing out. Are your tools sharp?????

Nope haha. I've been honing on a slipstone for a while - time for a proper sharpening on the grinder.
