Testing the shoulder

Ok my frozen shoulder is sloooowly getting better and I am getting sick of doing not much. Someone challenged me a while back to do an eastern banksia with each hole filled with something different in lieu of casting. So I grabbed a banksia and painstakingly filled each hole with one of the flouro glitter colours I have with thin CA then turned it onto a Black Sierra Vista (I thought the holes would have ended up too small on a normal Sierra). Unlike the normal Sierra I also found out that the Vista is a different dia at each end

. Very hard to photograph the amazing colours, they really pop, and the grain in the banksia was amazing too. Very typical me

, so this one is a keeper

So far so good with the shoulder so next was a small bowl from some of Grumpy John's firewood pile

. Some sort of Melaleuca. Ended up with a ~150mm dia peanut bowl, with heartwood and sapwood, even a bit of bark. Unfortunately sanding it did annoy the shoulder reaching into the inside. Simple flat foot so I could use my brand

. It certainly won't win any prizes but I'm sure as a freeby someone will love it

Now getting a bit sore so enough for one day

Neil, that pens looks superb!!! When I read fluro colours I was a bit dubious but man, it looks good.
Glad to hear you are getting some where with the shoulder. You just can't rush it. Time will be the healer.

Nice work on both Neil, cool brand as well. I know exactly what you are going through with your shoulder, I haven't been able to use mine for over 3 years now.

That pen looks to be one of a kind Neil, very effective.

Love your "brand" on the bottom of the bowl.

That pen is done by a man with a lot of time on his hands. I envy your spare time, but not your situation.
It was certainly worth all the effort in filling those holes. It looks fantastic, especially on the black kit as it really makes the colours stand out.
As Chambezio says, don't rush it and look after yourself.

Well Neil ! if you were going to push your shoulder a bit ,that result is certainly worth the effort

And I agree you hang onto it as a signature piece hehe. I grabbed one of those bread boards from aldis (the acacia ) they were 17mm thick so will make most pen kits commonly used ,got some good features and some spalting so plenty to play with ,see how many blanks I get

Nice work Neil, love the pen, bowl is nice too especially the brand. Gradually does it with the shoulder, it will soon come good.

Well done on a very nice pen but don't you have enough to write with already?

Hope the shoulder comes good soon. I know they can cause a lot of pain.
