The Tiger Moth Project Part 2
Hi All. Been so busy lately that have had little time to play. After the last batch of Tiger Moth pens I had orders for a heap more. It was the first time I have come across the need for production turning but all orders are now complete. Thanks to laser len for the engraving before his well deserved rest. There were 12 Sierra all finished with 10 coats of CA and engraved. Also there were three Sedonas (2 fountain and one rollerball), which were my first Sedonas. I think I prefer the look of these to the Sierras.. These had 15 coats before the mm treatment. With a scrap peice I made myself a desk clock. The wholes are from the joining of the Spruce in the Tiger Moths wing so I wanted to keep them as features. This was finished with W.O.P
Glad that this is over, now for some more variation

Good Job There
, I saw some of these at Lens a while back, Didn't see the Clock but.
Production Turning is somewhat tedious, but well worth it in the end, and yes it's nice to have some variety though.

Great looking pens - well done!
At what stage is the engraving done - before or after final finish.
can you feel the engraving or is it filled in and coated over?

Hi Hazza. This was the second batch Les did, the results were much better (not that the first were bad and they cleaned up well with some MM). The clock was just an off cut for me.
Black Ned. Hazza and Len are the experts. The engraving is done after the finish and is either infilled or the wood turns dark during the process. You can then add a few more oats of finish and polish. It does leave an indent but you maybe able to fill with CA, not sure and wasn't keen to try. A little care when polishing or some can get stuck in the lettering. I just gave a final hand polish avoiding the lettering.
Can highly recommend Laser Len, been fantastic and helpful the whole way.
