Timber Pen Cases
Hi All,
I was inspired by David's (Timberbits) pen case videos and thought it would be a good idea to give me good reason to go and spend a little time each night in the workshop. Whilst I have used Davids design I have routered the lid to reduce the profile size of the lid and I have reduced the size of the handle and it's shape.
I purchased some very nice and highly figured QLD Maple from Mapleman and put to use some of my equipment not yet really used. So some re-sawing, jointing, sanding both on the linisher and the drum sander and we had some timber to work with.
The photos show the boxes after their first coat of Organoil.
I have yet to make the inserts to hold the pen. I am leaning towards a shaped insert the full internal size of the box bottom and plan to cover it in black felt which should hold the pen in place comfortably and show the pen to its full potential.
I will post some pics in this thread once I complete the inserts.
Thanks
Tony

Beautiful boxes there Tony I hope you don't have to make 50 of them though hehe , I suspect would take longer than the pens Cheers ~ John

Thanks Guys,
I am reasonably pleased with the way they have turned out, although I think its the look of the timber that really makes them stand out I bought some black felt today now I just need to work out whats the best way to do the insert and what shape.
Cheers
Tony.

HI Tony
They have turned out great!
One suggestion that might improve the design is the handle. You have put our own touch into the design by routing the lid (a great improvement) but the handle seem to take a bit away from the design (doesn't seem to match the box).
It's only my suggestion, so don't be offended by the comment.
