First time teaching
I had a friend over yesterday, and he was interested to see how I turn pens. I told him we could do some together. Put 2 Sierra Wattle blanks on the lathe, and I worked on the one on the left, and he worked on the one on the right under instruction.
I guess some of them get lucky with the grain! Mine was pretty plain - his had some amazing figure through it.
He did great. No chips, no damages at all. He wanted to go for the large bulge look that he ended up with.
Both pens were sanded to 600, coated in 20 coats of thin CA, then micro-mesh through the grades to 12,000.
Simon.
