Hi Mik,
I've not had any problems with it but I keep it to a minimum by buying it already in tube form. This tube is 12mm OD x 10mm ID, so is an ideal pen size already. I have threaded, cut and bored it with both Tungsten and HSS tools. A sharp tool, low speed and light cuts seem to work fine.
I did try a heavy cut once. It 'galled' or gummed up like I was trying to use a blunt tool.

The zigzag edge was done on my mill.

the zigzag edge looks like a footed arrow, i think i told you about those when you were looking at making a billiard cue pen

before i get a mill though i think the metal lathe is more useful

Salty, I couldn't rely on just the PR to Ti glue joint. There is an aluminium sleeve inside. Just like a regular kit pen.
The sleeve in the body is threaded to take the nib and the one in the cap is just the same size as the hole in the cap magnet.

I am on the fence with this latest pen. The workmanship is spot on and up to your normal great stuff. The design is not bad but I am guessing the material choice is what got me looking at it with different views. I always put gold with white. I put silver with black. Anyway the pen has a nice shape and of course the zigzag pattern is a trademark of yours and again came out well. I probably would have like to seen maybe a ring of Titanium on each end of the pen to draw the 2 materials closer together. Just tossing ideas out there.

How is titanium to work with say next to stainless steel.??? What are the magnets actually pulling against??? You said there are some in the cap and pen. How are they held in??? If glued do you worry about pulling out??? I have done a Zen pen which you know has the magnetic cap. I am not liking the design of that pen because I feel the cap seems like it could get bumped off especially if putting in a pocket. I know in this case you have no clip so it is more a desk pen but with magnets in both sides of the pen and cap does it lock it more securely???

As always a great pleasure looking at your work. You do some interesting things with some intersting materials. Keep them coming and thanks for showing.

If I could make every pen to suit everyones taste, then I'd give up work and make them full time.

The magnets won't pick up an anvil or anything, but even with a good shake around, the cap doesn't come off.
They are pressed AND glued in. The one in the cap attracts to the one in the body.

You'll NEVER guess what I did with the first few magnets.........
I had to break them out and put them the correct way round!!


It's been far too long since you showed us a cool pen of yours. Watcha waiting for??

I hear you on the trying to please everyone. There is many many people who do not like what I do either. As for yours, I was just giving an honest opinion as I view it. One of those first look things. It probably would grow on me the more I look at it.

As far as my pens, I have none. The latest was the segmented zen with the olive wood and black acrylic. I did a few shows before the holidays and was tied up with that and now that the holidays have past I should be able to find some shop time soon. I have one that I need to cast and spin. The blank is made. But I had 2 failures with it before so I am a little hesitant. I keep trying new things to make it happen so maybe the third time is it.
