Well done John, i have that plan on the burner also but alas I have a low flame. I think it is a little easier with the metal lathe though which is still on my wish list as well.
Should sell OK I think, lots of potential now that you have had a go.

I rather like it John. will surely add to the vast variety of pens you have on your stall. Good luck with it.

Yep, that's what I intended with my new Beale, just haven't got round to it. I like the style , not sure about the finish though .
So what is the tool, an air powered router?
Next is getting the finish right if one wants to go to the high level finish. CA isn't going to be easy, so dipping may be the way to go .Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

( So what is the tool, an air powered router? ) you could say that hehe,it's an old "die grinder " that takes 1/4 shank bits . so I used a routerbit . While I still have the setup going to try a really black ebony blank in the morning , I think dipping is one way or graded buffing , I sanded to 1500 w/dry then polished with glow on the buffing wheel ended up a satin finish but for a prototype looks ok I said it would be easier on the "Beale " lol.
Cheers ~ JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

I got the ebony from a South african emmigrant who brought it with him to set up a business in fine furniture ,a hundred years ago they probably used whatever wood was to hand not big on conservation back then , I guess it was easier to bring recycled timber into australia cost wise and conservation wise, that's what he told me at least hehe. I did get some nice Pink ivory off him at the same time ,getting low on those supplies as well .
Cheers ~ JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!
