    Default Todays Challenge :)

Popped into Tony's (perfect pens ) yesterday for a chat and pick up some new blanks , Like a kid with a new toy I had to try one today , about 6 1/2 hrs later I ended up with this one (very challenging ) but very spiffy in the end, no finish just sanded and polished I chose a cigar kit as normally plenty of meat on the finished blanks, and I was cautious about getting this too thin ,this is one of the "Mystical stone range" Cheers ~ John

It is a very showy pen, exciting to see how some of the blanks will turn out!Amos

Mik ! I wish hehe, they are real stone chips and harder than any truestone I ever turned, took over half an hr each to drill the 2 blanks with a carbide drill and water, then max . .005" cuts on my metal lathe with a carbide tip, about 2 hrs turning on each blank to parallel, then sanded the tapers to match. All up a laborious effort, but in the end pretty damn nice , I have a few more of these blanks to go but might be a while till the next one lol. cheers ~ John

    Nice pen John.

Can't believe all the effort you put into it to finish the pen.

Well worth it in the end.

David ! this was a first try for me with this type of blank, I may have erred on the side of caution with being very gentle , I was not able to find any info on how to do these so ,just took it easy to save any possible chipping or blow-outs . Cheers ~ John

Certainly colourful John, but as you know I am not a lover of resin. As an aside I tried to phone Tony yesterday to get some pen kits as he is just down the road from me and I needed them in a hurry, but I couldn't raise him on his home or mobile phone. Not to worry, I contacted David and they will be here tomorrow or the day after. Can't complain about that.

A guy bought a pen off me on my website about 12 months ago and he just emailed with a reasonable but fast order for a conference.

Haven't been on here for a while as I have been a bit ill in recent times and hopefully beginning to recover.

Hehe ! not much resin in this one Greg, why I had to be so careful ,hard and soft is not condusive to a smooth cutting action, almost like hammering it.
I thought you had to use up your sickies before you retired and then stay healthy thereafter I saw Tony on Sat ,and I tried to ring on sat night ,ended up leaving a message as I was after some info on these stone blanks, didn't hear back yet ,but all done now You can always try me if you need kits in a hurry as I have a wide range Get better quickly cheers ~ John

Mate, he is probably in China or Singapore or Dubai or Vietnam - who knows, but a bit hard to buy kits if he is not there. I have this pen contract to do and after that I'll get down and have a chat again. Bit slow at the moment

I thought for a moment this was a knife. The small screen on the mobile makes it a little hard to see. Quite a bit of variations in the pen.

    Hi John,

Great job on the pen and the blank, all worth the effort when you see the finished result, I reckon it would look pretty darn good on a high end kit too ) Info on turning these blanks is on our website with each and every blank

    Cheers
    Tony.
