Todays effort
Hey There,
Had a day in the shed, cleaned up some space for my new (2nd hand Metal Lathe) and found a heap of glued up bits of wood, so I decided to buzz them into pens, Started with my Amboyna Burl Fountain Pen, then belted out 3 Jarrah Sierras with Sandalwood Celtic knot, a Highline with Mackay Cedar(Thanks Troy) Streamline with Curly Jarrah, 2 Streamline Australiana in Sheoak, Streamline Australiana Rose Gum (Stan Ceglinski) Sierra with Mulga, Sierra with Curly Jarrah, Sierra with Sandalwood, ended up doing 12 for the day, I also had to go to Work and cut some celtic knots on the Shipwrights tablesaw (I don't have one at the moment)
I also drilled and glued up a few blanks ready for thursday, (I hope to get some more shed time)

Nice bit of work there Hazza always good to get some on the stand hehe !. I do have a question for you though , not having done any "celtic knots yet myself (soon though I hope) it looks to me as though you only have 2 cuts to get intersecting circles ? my understanding is it takes 4 cuts to create the "celtic cross" it may well be the angle of the photograph though ,cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Hey there,
Thanks for the comments guys,
John, you are probably right about the 4 cuts, I have done a few with just 2 to make sure my new jig is working right, I have found that 2 cuts with an alignment problem, still looks OK to the punters, if the 4 cut goes out of shape, you have to bin it. I have the technology now that makes 4 cuts work.

Yes 4 cuts is the norm but you can do as many as you like as long as they are in multiples of 2. Those all look great and that is alot of work.
What are you using for a finish on your wood pens??? Thanks for showing.

Nice flock of pens there HB.
Do you use your jig on the tablesaw or the scms?
I've just made a rough one for using on my scms. it works quite well. I have been experimenting with only cutting half way through, am getting some great effects especially with compound angled cuts.
I will post some pics when I get some more time.

Hey Ironwood,
I use the Table saw, and I don't cut all the way through, i will post some pics on the weekend.
Hey JT,
I sand to 12000 Micro Mesh, then numerous coats of CA/BLO and then Hutts Friction Wax
