Todays Pen Phoenix in Cholla & Blue Resin
Hey All,
Had one Cholla and 1 Tree Fern Blank disaster today which I ended up having to throw away and then on the third and last blank I was working on I managed to get this one to turn out just fine
The blank is one of Neils pressure castings turned to suit the Phoenix. The blank was wet sanded, polished using glow and then coated in 5 coats of thin CA and then ten coats of medium CA and has a deep glass like finish. Pity the photos did not pick up on the depth and shine.
So see what you think
Cheers
Tony.

I have seen your finish in the flesh so can appreciate the missing shine hehe, this is the next challenge turning and finishing dissimilar materials sometimes soft and hard together , and blending different skills to make a unique whole , you have done well, we all have a learning curve as we stretch out and challenge ourselves ,thats why there are no limits but our own ,in this affliction hehe.As you delve into the world of casting your own blanks you will find other ways to challenge yourself and produce further beautiful works , Cheers ~ John
( The phoenix kit does give you a bit more material to work with and show off hehe)G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Lovely blank. I don't like the Phoenix pen kit much but that is personal preference. Disasters aren't limited to pen turning. I spent 2 hours putting up a blind that should have taken 15 minutes and still didn't get it level. It went from a 1 stubby job to a number. Maybe that's why its not level

Haha !!
I must admit I was a little the same however these pens do look better and feel better when you have them in your hand. The photo just does not do the kit justice. When I took the photographs and viewed them prior to posting I was surprised in that the Cholla does not look to have a good fit to the components but in the hand and to look at it is just fine.
I think the look of this kit is starting to grow on me
Cheers
Tony
