    Default Tru_stone Jr Gent

Tru-Stone Jr Gent, the blank is the new ones from Timberbits, thank you David.

The first one I split the blank on the upper barrel just as I was coming through the end of the blank. I think the blanks should be longer and drill to a blind end and cut off to required length.

This is the second attempt, the blank is quite hard and requires very sharp tools and nice gentle guts. When drilling I used lots of water and frequent trips out of the hole to keep it cool a sharp drill is a necessity.

Sanded and polished to 12000MM and then brasso and car polish.

I think these blanks are going to be a big hit.

I am going to make the roller ball as the other part of a set.

Good to see you at it Sam, I think we are so spoilt with a multitude of kits and blanks, very well done. You mentioned the drilling, I found out some of the different tips produce different results at the very end, some tips cause blow outs with that material and others don't, the safest bet is to do as you suggested, only drill a certain way then cut off the end. Very nice pen, Sam. And your drilling tip is absolutely correct.

Beautiful pen & very good finish. Just made a Wall Street 11 with the same turquoise blank. I really like the way the Tru Stone turns. Easy as Acrylic without the cutoff strings to wrap around the mandrel. More like turning a stabilized wood. Guess i've always been lucky, I've never had a blank of any sort blow the end out, that's one reason I don't like drilling on the lathe. I always back up the blank with a piece of wood using a drill press & pen vice. If you can get your hands on the "Colt" drill bits, there can't be anything better. They are amazing.

Tom these blanks are not the Tru-stone you get Timberbits picked this lot up in China and is definitely a lot harder than Tru_stone
