Trying Out Plastic Coating
Hey All
I have made up my mind and I am going to use Plastic Coating for most of my wood pens from now on as I have used it a couple of time now had awesome results and yes I know it takes longer to apply to the pens but it is also a selling point of the the fact that the stuff is durable and hard wearing and very long lasting. Here a couple I am working on atm the one at the headstock end is Mun Ebony that will be a Sedona and the other one is a Sierra that I made a while ago from Box Elder and a lady from work brought it and the CA coating went all funny so I told her I would fix it and now it is looking better

Great looking blanks!
I have used a Plexiglass finish in the past and works great, but is APITB to make.

Beautiful pens as usual Les. You certainly have a huge knowledge base on finishing pens and its wonderful to read your articles. But I take it the flexiplastic is not a good choice for a smoker

What length is the mandrel you are using in the photos. I can only get one pen at a time on mine and would like a longer one if it doesn't bend too easily.
Thanks

Plastic Coating (Rustins) will work well the one and only pen I have ever made was a fountain pen I finished whith Rustins Plastc Coating the pen has and is being used every day for four years and there is more signs of wear on the metal fittings than the timber finish

I would have said the fumes are similar to varnish, is that ok for you Mr Rags?
I'll be doing some later in the week and will reappraise odor.regards
