More tweaking of photos
Here's a new pen I made using one of my casts I call Wisteria Blossom. I've been doing a lot of playing around with different setups, and I've been picking the brains of some IAP members for ideas. This shot uses a piece of black acrylic under the pen. It gives a slight shadow, which I don't mind. I'm not a fan of the mirror under the pen. If you try this method, you'll need some picture editing software. No matter what you do, you can't keep the black free of lint. I use photoshop elements 11. I've used some of the free ones in the past, and they work, but this program is pretty easy to use. It has a tool called spot healing. Basically you click on the spot, and it removes the abnormal part of the photo. Works great on getting lint off pens too.
Anyway, here's the pen. It's on a Timberbits Executive Sierra. This is now my favorite Sierra style kit. Very smooth transmission, and looks great too.
C&C welcome.

Great looking pen and a very effective photo!!!
How would some of the anti static sprays go for keeping lint away?

Thats a slick looking pen. The blank is top class.
And your photography does it justice. The only criticism I can give ( Please dont take it as negative criticism), is the light reflecting off the clip.
If you diffused the light source a little, I think it would really make a big difference.
I like the look of the subdued reflection you are getting with that black perspex, doesnt take away from the main subject like a mirror does.
I have a piece of black glass that I have used, but it gives an almost mirror type reflection.
Might have to find me a piece of that perspex.Brad.

Thanks for the positive comments from everyone!!
I don't know, I've never tried any of those sprays. My guess is that it won't make much difference. You really don't notice the lint till you see the photo. The photo is usually at least 2 or 3 times the size of the pen depending on the size of your monitor. So the details really show up where you don't see them with the naked eye. Especially mine.
No offense taken. I always want to know how I can get better. You're right, I do think there is a bit too much glare on the clip. Even though I use a light tent, I still get glare. It's kind of a double edged sward with the glare. I think some glare makes the pen look more like it has a glass finish. And that's what it should look like, because that's what we see when we polish a pen made with resin. Many of my older photos made the pen look like it had almost a satin finish when they were really shiny.
But I'm still learning about taking better photos. Right now I'm using 2 lights. I think I need at least 1 more coming from above.
I also really like the black acrylic. It makes the colors really stand out. Much better than using a light gray backdrop.

Yes, it is very hard to get the right balance.
A lot of my older photos have the satin look as well.
I have found since I have been concentrating on getting better photos of my pens, the quality of my finished pens have gotten a lot better. Because I can see much more detail in my photos than my eyes just looking at the pen.
And the dust and lint, well, it really is a plaque. A microfiber cloth gets most of it off, but there will always be some that you wont see until its up on the big screen.
Luckily its easy to get rid of most of them with post-processing.Brad.

I haven't tried a black background - looks interesting and I've noticed that others have used that setup to good effect

An iPad screen makes an effective background.
If you have an old dead computer monitor laying around, it might be alright too. Come to think of it, might have a look for one myself.Brad.
