Ubeaut waxstik as pen finish?
I'm looking for a faster alternative to CA finishes for pens. I have just made a couple of sheoak pens, sanded to 600 grit and finished them with ubeaut shithot waxstik.
Has anyone had any long term experience with this as a pen finish? my concern is that because it doesn't offer a protective layer like CA it won't stand up to the torture most pens are put under with constant rubbing.
Also i would presume that it would only work on fairly hard and dense timbers like sheoak etc, and not on more porous timbers like silky oak or wattle where thin CA has the chance to penetrate the fibres of the timber and give much needed strength to otherwise soft or porous timbers.
Thanks,
Simon

Wax sticks do work on pens, but Glow gives a better shine and bonds with the timber. Both however, like any wax product finish, will not last against the continuous touching during use as the oily acid on our hands wears it away. What is then left is effectively a natural hand oil finish that many prefer (but not me nor my high end customers).

My market pens get a hard life ,all sorts of weather ,hot cold etc, many hands touching and testing ,packed up and bundled away ,then the same thing all over again next week ,no way will a wax finish stand up to the treatment week in and week out ,If I am selling a $5 dollar kit and sometimes a free blank for $50 dollars and better ,then the finish has to last longer than a week hehe. I rarely get asked for plain wood ,so I do a CA finish as a matter of course ,just far more practical, and usually enhances the timber and strengthens it , my 2 cents at least hehe, cheers ~ John
