    Default Some unusual ones

With all the posts lately using unusual materials I couldn't resist giving it a go, especially since I haven't made a pen for a while.

Snakeskins (from Froggie), pinecones and banksia. The banksia holes from the seeds have been filled with brass filings (dam hard to photograph). The Siera pinecone also took 2 pinecones, so it also has a brass filled ring between them. The pine cones and banksia took heeeeaaaps of CA , but very happy with the results.

    Cheers

Beautiful pens. I especially like the brass filled cones. Nice touch.

Great going Neil, exquisit looking pens. I only started cutting up some small pine cones yesterday ( from Wallan) , the smaller cones don't give you much to work with, so putting a ring in like your Sierra may be an option, Amos

I really gotta try my had at some pine cones.

The resin cast skins make nice pens, which I imagine would be popular with customers... but they just don't do anything for me.

However, those cones... Oooooh yeah! Now they have style!
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Interesting pens Neil, will have to stop and pick up some pine cones
    one day.
Did one in casuarina cones a while back, four cones to a carbara,
comes out with a honeycomb pattern, but would be better suited
to a slightly slimmer kit. will have to see if I have a pic somewhere

    cheers Mick

Neil have been fairly quiet and am catching up with posts here. The skins always turn out great quality product and quality craftsmanship, so would not expect anything lees than your quality work. The stand out in creativity is the pine cone Sierra your brass centre band, did you use a brass washer for it or another method? Once again you do quality work Neil that I could see in classy gift shops, keep doing what you do mate

I actually just had the two pine cones glued together originally, but the match in the patterns/grain and the joint looked like crap. So I cut a thin grove at the join with a skew and filled with brass powder and CA, that way I knew I was going to get a perfect join.

    Thanks for the compliments.
