Default Using Once Fired BMG 50 Caliber

M33 Ball projectiles to make some Parker and Cross nib sections for my BMG 50 Cal ballpoint pens.
Removed the rifling marks from the exposed top section and left rifling marks on the unexposed section to show that the projectile has be once fired.

Lookin good ! , I didn't realise you could get once fired projectiles ,must be soft targets hehe ,these are as rare as hens teeth here , once fired casings are not too bad ,but projectiles are hard to come by with our draconian gun laws cheers ~ John

    John

If interested, you can pick a lot up at the target end of the 7.62 (.308) range at Belmont Rifle Range in Brisbane. They use armour piercing projectiles so some of them are spared from damage on impact with the bank behind the target. Check with the NRA range officer at Belmont who might let you collect some on a non shooting day. 50 cal is rarely used privately in Queensland, although the Army shooting range at Greenbank will have a lot lying around.

Wonderful work Les, as usual. Oh to be retired, and have the time to experiment with all the various facets of pen making.

    Beautiful work Les

Question though - since the projectiles are real, with rifling that would be very hard to find, why machine/polish them at all? Doesn't it spoil the authenticity?

I left all the rifling marks on some and the ones without the rifling sell better.
I did leave rifling marks on the unexposed boat tail sections to show that they had been fired.

Almost forgot John. You can go out to Belmont Rifle Range (the big bore) on a Saturday and buy 308 ammunition from which you can extract the projectile. All will be new. It will be much cheaper to buy there than at a gunsmith and one of the guys at the range might even remove the projectiles for you. It saves a detonation if you don't have the right equipment. Just call in at the NRA clubhouse/bar and ask to be pointed in the right direction. I used to shoot there in competition many years ago and they are all good people to deal with.
