Default Vanuatu amboyna burl and preturned blank olive to follow> soon

    DSCF0016.JPGDSCF0023.JPGDSCF0025.JPGDSCF0003.JPGDSCF0009.JPG

From the group recently shown the finish is mirror like so I cut back the o head lighting so as to capture some of that grain the third pic shows the feature created by the burl almost like Ebony toward the tip. The Olive is waiting in the wings for tomorrow
showing in the prepared blanks the clean entry using my twenty yr old step drill I use to clean the inside (to be sure to be sure). The first time I have used the new Gorilla wood glue it dries transparent, totally manageable and IMHO cheap as from Masters 8 fluid ozs or 236 mls. I use wood skewers to get a full inside covering then liberally coat the brass.

For the first time before attempting to glue I checked each drilled blank from either end to make sure the timber had not closed up in either direction this with nearly 90 half blanks paid huge dividends 9 total jammed redrilled them with a battery drill and 7mm bit held in a hand vice cause they tell me ripped skin holding the blanks otherwise can be extreme and take time to heal. Guess how I found out?

Also I made a shortish round stepped brass piece from solid brass with a 1/2 inch step a snug fit in the brass ends to hold the brass to rough up the brass with painters yellow sandpaper cutting grooves for adhesion along the length from either end, tired already/ well doing this I found my newest friend called it a go no go guage cause of the ninety odd brasses 9 failed to fit on the brass holder, pitched them in the bin, great save IMHO both in time and possible splits during pressing later on.

Incididentally I received a call from my wholesaler where I buy my all time favourite drill 7mm and other sizes DeWalt Extreme 2 HSS-G drill point drill (it has a short drill in the tip of the drill then flattish lands I get Herculean Service using these, they dont track they dont break out at the bottom of the blank I just finished non stop drilling 90 odd blanks at a fastish speed and expect to get up to 200 blanks from each drill or more do the sums. The call was to tell me they are back on the shelves they went off came back as sets now back as individuals, placed my order then and there.

So after quite a dry spell in pen making the weather has improved my health has improved and am making a lot of discoveries in blanks.

    Kind regards Peter.
