Wait A While - well named
This particular piece should be named Wait A LONG While. Another piece of Euge's collection, this was delayed by my thick fingers giving Euge a wrong street number in my address. After being "returned to sender", but never arriving, it finally turned up back with Euge who then posted it to me (again). By then, I was involved in knocking out some 30 pens for the Troops and arranging a new kitchen so it had to wait a while longer. Final result (apart from learning to always check my poor typing) were the Cigar and Cigar Ultra - thanks Euge.

Thanks, Brad. It was bought as Wait A While (which is usually for thorny timber - if you get stuck, just ........). Euge calls it by that name but also explains it as follows: "Wait-a-while Acacia colletioides). A rare shrub from inland, slow growing prickly but is not a dead finish. Collected by myself IN A DESERT AREA 30 years ago. small log with bark. Oval in cross section, thin PALE sapwood, pale - mid brown heartwood, fine WELL DEFINED growth rings."

Ah, OK. That explains it. The wait-a-while that I know of is a thin prickly vine in the rainforest, not much good for pens.
Brad.

Hi Peter, Gary & Brad,
This species is called wait-a-while because it bails you up if you come close with it's thin, pointy / prickly phyllodes (as quite a few inland acacias do).
The acacias in other lands (eg Africa, Middle East, America) instead have large individual thorns (very few of ours do).
As for the IWCS Meeting, we have been planning for this BIG one coming up in October 14-19 incl at a Ibis Styles Hotel on outskirts of the city. It will include wood & crafts displays, wood & craft auction many outings by bus dinners, visits to Bungendore, local woodworking clubs, Arboretums, Forestry School etc etc. Will make an announcement soon. I plan to be there and will bring wood etc for the auction and others I may meet.
Cheers, Euge
