    Default Wall Street Elegant Beauty

This is another pen for my local Woodcraft store to display.

Our local club has volunteered to help them out by turning the pens. I did 3 Euro's and now three variations of the Wall Street version of the Elegant Beauty.

This is a dressed in Black TI and wearing a nice piece of Honduran Rosewood Burl that I goofed on for a reel seat but looks like it belongs here.

Finished with 4 coats of a plexiglas-acetone concoction and polished with Brasso and then a coat of Meguiar's Gold Clear Coat Finish.

I thought I was using regular everyday plexiglas but was informed by the suppiler of my small hode of palstic that: "I can pretty much say that what Ron is calling plexi is actually clear acrylic sheet fully impregnated to block 98% UV radiation (ie: minimize fading caused by UV light). Cyro Acrylite OP-3. There are some clear sheet goods that neither acetone nor MEK will dissolve, so it pays to know the source of the clear sheet. Both MEK and Acetone are pretty nasty stuff. I prefer MEK because it evaporates more slowly than Acetone; though Ron is the master who has perfected the recipe. I was using 1-2 sq in of .118" thick sheet per ounce of solvent to get started."

Our local store is redoing the way they have their pen kits displayed. Here is what it was like.

I can't speak for other pen turning stores as this is the only one I've ever been in but this can be confusing trying to find a particular kit and trying to envision what it looks like.

This what it all will look like when it's done.

I did marketing for 10 years and I think it doesn't take a genius to figure out this ought to increase pen kit sells dramatically.

Your pen is great on a beautiful burl. That display looks good, has to make it much easier for customers for sure.

Yes ... makes a BIG difference and when it is done it should help get new pen turners.

I agree ... I ave just a couple pieces of this timber that I keep for special uses and that pen kit just called out for it.

I think so ... the displays are really neat as the pen is on the outside and all the kits right there in the inside of the box.

Spring has been real wet cold and snow. We did have sun poking through yesterday but rain and freezing temps for tonight. I am able to spend some time on my lathe.

BTW ... that swap you made for Mark is outstanding ... I need to go re-read the post and see what timbers you made those pens ...

Hi Ron, plenty of character in that burl, nice pen.
Never heard of the plexiglass being used as a finish before, how long is it taking until you can apply the next coat?

A huge improvement in the Woodcraft display, as you say , it should attract some new guys to give penturning a go.
The old system must have been difficult even for the experienced guys.
