Western Diamondback Tru-Texas™ Quarter Long click pen
this was a very nice Western Diamondback snakeskin that i skinned and tanned a couple of months ago. I decided it was time to cast it in some resin, but this time with a quarter over the top of it! All comments criticisms welcome!SAM_1569.JPGSAM_1566.jpgSAM_1568.JPG

Very nice work. Love the way you were able to put a map of Texas on the blank.

Nice one, the quarter finishes it off just right I reckon.
In regards to using the Quarter, is that legal tender? Pretty sure that if we did that here with our coins, we would get a slap on the wrist and a fine.
Which brings me to ask this as I have now seen a few pens from the States with what looks to be legal tender incorporated in it. Is it legal to use coins or notes that are still legal tender?Cheers

It is illegal in Canada too as long as no fraud is intended.
Section 331 of Title 18 of the United States code provides criminal penalties for anyone who “fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the Mints of the United States.”
This statute means that you may be violating the law if you change the appearance of the coin and fraudulently represent it to be other than the altered coin that it is.
As a matter of policy, the U.S. Mint does not promote coloring, plating or altering U.S. coinage: however, there are no sanctions against such activity absent fraudulent intent.

Actually it is LEGAL as long as i dont alter the coins(currency) in such a way that changes the printed value to a higher value for personal gain. Basically what the US Mint has informed me is that if i want to cut out coins all day that is fine as long as I dont try to introduce them back into circulation(AND) for a personal gain.(this means taking a 25 cent coin and making show that it is worth more and passing it as such). So I am within the legal parameters because they are being removed from circulation and being re-purposed.
thanks for all of the comments
