    Default what's new in Pens?

    Hello All,

Well with the wood show in Sydney only days away now it got me thinking what new pens might be out there that I don't know about.

This year, what with the mortgage in permanent creep and petrol a zillion dollars per litre I have got to seriously think about what I buy at the WWW&TS.

In previous years it has been my one day where SWMBO lets me go a bit nuts. Being fiscally responsible this year will be a requirement and I've got enough power tools and lathes etc. for now, so I thinks I will make pen turning kits my achievable goal this year.

So...with that in mind, does anybody know of new kits coming out, or any "special" deals for the show - especially the fountain pen end of the market. I really enjoy fountain pens and so does everyone I make them for. I generally us the ones from Froggy @ Addictive or the Gent Jr. from Gary Pye. I am really keen to know if there is new models so I can start the de-sensitization program with the wife...

    Interested in your thoughts.

    Scott in Peakhurst.

    Scott,

There are a few nice kits on the market. The Baron and JR Gent are essentially similar to each other, the Baron being a bit cheaper than the JR Gent.

GPW have a couple of cheaper fountain pen and roller ball kits, your RL pens and I think it is called the Executive pen, both a narrower than others around. Carrolls also carry the RL pens and Executive pens as well.

Carb-a-tec carry the Statesman and the Emperor range of pens they are quiet expensive, but high end for pens.

Brett at addictive pens carries the Sedona which is a very classy pen, also there is the Churchill and El Grande range. Then there is the Cambridge.

The Sedona in Stirling Silver has a nice etching on the bands and has a posting cap like the Baron. Both the Churchill and the El Grande have plain bands with a thin black band to divide the gold, chrome or plating of choice. for large pens they are light.

The Cambridge is of similar design in shape as the El Grande but that is where it ends. The Cambridge has a floral design on the bands as well as a design in the end of cap and base, the fittings are of metal and gives a good weight to the pen and nice balance to it.

Before you go have a look at each of the above mentioned web sites to see what is about.

I hope you enjoy the Sydney Timber and Working With Wood Show

    Default new models

Try the Stretch pen from LauLau woodworks or the Zen version from CSUSA. The stretch is a screw on cap/ post and the Zen is a magnetized version. They both have longer bodies.
Penn State has some newer versions of some other styles, mostly Berea models.
