    Default Wonky knot

After the the success of my first celtic knot for the IAP pen swap I thought I better make one for me. This time the results were not quite as planned. The wood is Holly and the inlay of purple heart. I think one of the cuts may have been slightly off (not sure but I guess I must have nudged the jig). The rest am not sure of what happened. I think that I didnt drill quite central, any suggestions as to why it is the way it is are appreciated. However I dont mind what has come out and I think the wonky knot is a good descritpion.

    Hi Ian

I use a mitre drop saw to cut the blank set to 45 degrees. I then have a fence on that with some clamps and a stop block to get blank in the right spot. Most people seem to use a table saw but as I dont have one I make do. I find it best to cut through the blank then turn saw off and wait for blade to stop rotating before allowing blade to come back up through blank as there is less chance of the wood chipping (trial and error on this one!).

The in lays are cut with the band saw. I again have made a deli slicer jig that run against a fence. This set to cut a thin slice of the wood at the same width as the kerf on the drop saw blade.

I found this tutorial really helpful.

Need any more info let me know. Here is the link a question I asked about it a while ago. My jigs should be on the bottom post.
