Default WWW York Gum Burl with Red-Russet

    Hey All

Here is something different other then snake skins lol. A WWW (wonderful worthless wood) blank home casted my way ;-) and it works a treat. York Gum Burl with Red-Russet resin on a Executive Sierra, turned down close to size on bushes they removed bushes and turned to finish size without bushes sanded to 1200g and finished with NP on the resin and waxstick after that. Really enjoyed making this pen and will be making some more very soon all comments welcome

    Great looking pen Ian!!

What's the difference between an ordinary Sierra and an Executive Sierra?

    Thanks artme

The difference is I think they are better quality and they have a flat cap on the top instead of rounded one which I like and the clip is wider and looks very smart IMO

Ian it has become apparent to me that since you have seen the light and started to TBC the quality of your pens has gone up a level, excellent work on that pen, that is top notch.

A beautiful result on this one Ian.
I was following the progress on FB. Something I can't figure out though was how did you drill the hole in the timber blank to start with? I think i remember seeing this when it was just the timber around the tube before casting it.

Or am I remembering it wrong - did you cast the whole thing in resin then drill and glue after? That process I can understand

Thanks mate I am wrapped with this one D

The tube was glued in before casting then I rounded the Burl of so it would fit into my small Sierra mold ;-) the next one I will take some pics of the process and post them up ;-)

Any dramas though with drilling the burl before glue up? If I did that I'd probably snap the *****'n thing in half while drilling, or get tear-out at the end from the drill pushing through

    That a cool looking pen.

Good color contrast between the wood & resin.
