    Default Zebrano Roman Harvest

At least the owner doesn't have to experience the "wet dog" smell of the wood as it's being turned 😀

Newbie here - love the timber, can I ask about the layout of your blanks, and how the yield came out? I'm assuming that the alternative layout (parallel to grain and existing block edges) would have given a somewhat pedestrian result - which the lovely stripes on the pen certainly aren't !

There's not a lot of surface area on a pen, so contrasting grain does tend to reduce to just a line down the pen if the grain runs parallel.

    A quick Google for
    Zebrano pen
has quite a few images where the grain is parallel. For example, this fountain pen

Wonderful just great result using this to me furry timber, did you use something to smooth the timber off before you gave the pen the finish we all desire.I love the Roman Harvest however the top section of the pen only has a thin veneer amount of timber that can easily cause grief.

    My compliments and congratulations mate.

Cross cutting the timber has certainly given it a very effective grain pattern, so much better than the pen you found to compare with. The end result looks great.

Love the effect of angled cut Zebrano. It is a furry timber to tame
