I guess the ply sled idea is probably best then, better than an arm mounted to a miter gauge. To me L - R movement/placement of the jig is not the issue, racking could be. To limit racking the sled would need to be sufficiently long, at least 20 - 30 cm, front to back, and have a snug fitting miter bar to match. It should be easy to align and mount the jig. Precise placement of the jig is not nearly as critical as kiss calibration or setting the pin width. Close is good enough. The jig should be mounted perpendicular to the blade so the sides of the fingers are not skewed. Once you have the IBOX accurately mounted to the ply you could glue guide strips to the ply to make it easy to quickly mount and unmount it if you want. Also, you'll want to use flat/stable ply so it is easy to set blade height.
