incra 1000se question
i have had a 1000se for some time now and for the life of me i can not figure out the vernier adjustment . i have looked at the pictures so many times and have had others try and figure it out with no luck. is there a video anywhere that shows how this works.
i feel like a fool to admit this but i am lost. i do segmented turning and it would be a real benefit if i could SEE someone explain this
thank you

I don't know if there is a video but this is how you use the vernier adjustment.
Pivot actuator tooth away from the protractor head and tighten thumbscrew. (fig11 page 4 of the manual).
Now loosen the small nylon thumbscrew on the actuator and pivot the vernier scale towards the protractor scale until it is aligned edge to edge then tighten the small nylon thumbscrew.
Align the 0 on the vernier scale with the 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 1/10 move the actuator until the first mark to the left of 0 on the vernier aligns with the first mark to the left of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 2/10 move the actuator until the second mark to the left of 0 on the vernier aligns with the second mark to the left of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 3/10 move the actuator until the third mark to the left of 0 on the vernier aligns with the third mark to the left of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 4/10 move the actuator until the fourth mark to the left of 0 on the vernier aligns with the forth mark to the left of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 5/10 move the actuator until the fifth mark to the left of 0 on the vernier aligns with the fifth mark to the left of 0 on the protractor head.
For 6 to 9 tenths you now need to use the right hand side of 0 on the vernier scale and the right hand side of 0 on the protractor head (see page 8 of the manual).
So from the right hand .5 on the vernier the next mark to the left would be counted as six, then the second mark to the left of .5 would be seven, the third mark to the left of .5 would be 8 and finally the fourth mark from the left of the .5 would be 9.
To adjust 6/10 move the actuator until the first mark to the left of the right hand .5 on the vernier aligns with the first mark to the left of the 5 which is to the right of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 7/10 move the actuator until the second mark to the left of the right hand .5 on the vernier aligns with the second mark to the left of the 5 to the right of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 8/10 move the actuator until the third mark to the left of the right hand .5 on the vernier aligns with the third mark to the left of the 5 to the right of 0 on the protractor head.
To adjust 9/10 move the actuator until the fourth mark to the left of the right hand .5 on the vernier aligns with the fourth mark to the left of the 5 to the right of 0 on the protractor head.
That is about as clear as I can make it, if you need clarification just ask.

Looked on the Incra site and google but could not find a worthwhile video, but Incra have a new manual for the unit which covers it fairly well in the body for setting to 1 degree using the 0 line on the vernier scale and the main graduation scale. This refers you to the back page tor using the vernier system to get 0.1 degree accuracy.
This doesn't seem to have a detailed procedural description, but does have a callout with a brief description and a set of illustrations showing settings for interger and decimal degree settings, which seem to make sense to me, but I have been around linear verniers for 40 + years.
Spent about an hour describing it with examples but sprog beat me by about half an hour so I pulled it, but the link to the new manual might be helpfull.

Why don't you just download the manual for the Vernier Cursor?
It explains the process rather well.Cheers

not quite. if you have the 1000se follow the one in the manual. It has different markings to the one on the vernier cursor pdf. The 1000se is accurate to 1/10 of a degree, the other one is accurate to 1/4 of a degree. The stand alone vernier cursor must have been fitted to another or possibly an earlier mitre gauge.
It probably would not have been too difficult to have added another two lines to the 1000se cursor to enable accurate placement of the 1/4 degree increments but it would not be able to be where it is on the other model as it would be too close to the other lines. I hope this makse sense to everyone.
DougI got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.
