    Default Incra ibox question

    Hi there

Ive been making kerf jigs on my table saw with Dado blades to cut 10 x 8mm slots for a melodeon keyboard part and being quite the novice it takes forever and not consistently accurate.
I came across the INCRA IBOX jig and would like to ask the Forum if it would be possible to cut 8mm slots at 20mm centre's 16mm deep with timber that is 32mm thick? or Could the IBOX be used to make kerf jigs Quicker maybe?

Im in Newcastle NSW and if any forum members locally have an INCRA IBOX I'd love to check it out,

    All help very much appreciated.

    Best regards

    Bing

    No.

The iBox makes the exact width tooth patterns. They are all perfectly even and one cannot adjust this.

Height of cut and thickness of the timber are not a consideration. However, the tooth is always the same width for all. This is how it makes such a wonderful fit.

What you need, if the piece isnt super wide, is a Leigh dovetail jig! This beast can handle literally anything you throw at it.

Another option would be to use an el-cheapo $80 dovetail jig and get someone with a CNC (or laser cutter) to cut you a custom template for it.

ANOTHER way would be to make up a jig for the tablesaw. I saw one made by an American chap called Ng, let me find that for you. Edit: Here it is (William Ng) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NutwD7B6tmE

Use this last idea with a tooth of the exact size you need, with a dado blade set to the minor width you need.

Can you post a photo of what you currently use and what you make?

    Hi Bing[
somehow I think that what you need is a router, bearing guided spiral bit and a template.

as Woodpixel requested, can you post a photo

I will check out William Ng Vid and the Leigh Dove tail Jig Here is pic of my Jig I use and the part I cut with my dado blades on my peerless table saw.
when setting up jig I make 10 cuts with 8mm Stacked Dado and if Im .2 mm out the last cut is out by 2mm it gets very time consuming adjusting the 2mm
out thats why I thought about the IBOX where you could dial it in as I would like to make the same part with different Centres, that part in pic is
    8mm at 20mm centres.

from memory the Leigh jig is limited to work pieces a smidge less than 32 mm wide

Another option would be to use an el-cheapo $80 dovetail jig and get someone with a CNC (or laser cutter) to cut you a custom template for it.
that wold give Bing a constant spacing -- he wants to be able to vary the spacing on each project. some will be at 20 mm centers, others at 18 mm centers, etc.

    Default Thanks Ian

I re watched the IBOX master Video on youtube and at 105.35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdkwZiJdKOs they have a section on Dental moulding, and adjust different size cuts to the finger size, could this be similar to what Im doing and I just use thicker timber ?

of course I could possibly be missing something obvious,

I think what you are trying to do is equivalent to dentil molding.

But I think you want to go a lot deeper and wider than your typical dentil mold.

What is the maximum thickness of wood that the iBox can handle? (What Incra calls material thickness will be equivalent to the length of your slots.)

Well dang! Dentil molding on an ibox. I really didn't think to wind the fine adjuster right out.

It's a lot of winding! It would be interesting to see what its maximum is.

    This would certainly be accurate....
