You may have missed a post back on Page 2: NEW resource for Incra wonderfence - generate custom joints

Given that Evanism (the user) has the account listed as "retired", I would suspect they're no longer here. Perhaps someone else has a copy of the spreadsheet, but from the post I noted, it sounded like it was never completed, and abandoned in favour of the software you refer to.

I purchased the Metric version as I live in England and we have predominantly use metric rather than Imperial and was surprised that the Metric version uses the Whiteside Imperial bits for the dovetail joints.

I have used the pyRouterjig to make a Template holder and have been in correspondence with Robert Lowrie the developer and Valentin Valdas who has provided an update for the metric system including metric dovetail bits. Further developments have recently been made albeit the pandemic has not helped as Valentin caught COVID-19 and has now recovered. I would recommend getting the latest version uploaded by Valentin.

I have found difficulty in finding said metric dovetail bits and thank you Ian for listing the CMT and Festool metric bits.

Really pleased to have joined the forum and to be in contact with other metric LS Positioner users.

Evanism is still around, current user name 'woodPixel'. You might be aware that he no longer has access to a dedicated workspace and mainly works with hand tools these days. I'm sure he's still a HUGE fan of Incra products though.

Yes, the spreadsheet was no more enlightening than the software.

I was a dev back in the day and worked with the pyRouterjig dudes to fix up the metricness. At first it was on the to-do list, but I prodded it along and the work was easily done....

Well, I believe its a cheat as the imperial was simply metric-afied 1/2" became 12.7mm.... and a lot of 9 digit decimals ensued. These were rounded off.

It is UTTERLY SHITFUL that router bits are imperial. It is a revolting situation. With a decent array of metrics one could do all sorts of noodly things with the Incra metric TSLS. I simply don't understand why the woodworking world hangs onto this ridiculous, ineffective, cumbersome and utterly bizarre medieval measurement system. Personally, I think it should be illegal, in all its forms, in all places.

I think, however, that there is a better solution for dovetails if one wants highly variable DT's... by hand.... or a Leigh Jig.

Leigh jigs are coming up for sale a lot recently. They are easy to operate (IGNORE the manual) and quick to set up. I sold mine due to the move, which I deeply regret. I'm keen to buy another one, but not the huge D4R as its a monster.... a little one would be fine, but later.

BBUUTT... I would say, that doing DT's by hand isn't hard. If you are an Instagram user, try #igDovetailChallenge and/or #30daydovetailchallenge one a day for 30 days.... good mad skillz

I have never seen a true 19mm chisel. They're all 3/4" but stamped 19mm

Many thanks everyone for the kind welcome and for WoodPixel update on the spreadsheet and pyRouterJig origins. I do aim to cut dovetails by hand but need to practice more so the Instagram links will be good. My son is good with his hands and is keen to do Dovetails and has just taken an old jig that belonged to his grandfather but may progress to the Leigh jig.

My woodworking at school was so bad that I was persuaded to change to another subject. Talented father and father-in-law (a professional woodturner) meant that until they passed away I could rely upon them to do DIY; particularly woodworking. Having retired I have been able to find skills which were previously undiscovered but a lot of this is to do with the quality of tools now available.

I am from the UK so we have always retained our Imperial measurements in one form or another. The problem in woodworking in the UK is that this hobby has been on the decline so a lot of the tools and equipment are imported particularly from the USA and Canada.

Most of my machine tools are metric however, so I chose the Metric LS version without realising that there were fewer templates and that the Dovetails were Imperial and therefore the range of joints is far less than the Imperial version. However, with pyRouterJig and the Metric dovetail bit sources given in this thread I hope to be able to do the same equivalents.

I bought the Incra Projects and Techniques book which is a great resource but was written for the Imperial version. I will try to see whether I can make some templates to replicate these as Metric versions.

But it is not just the woodworking fraternity and, incredibly, it is not just in the "imperialist" countries.

Japan never had a tradition of imperial measurements - it never used inches, feet, ounces, etc. And it has one of the best railway systems in the world; their Shinkansen or bullet trains are incredible running smoothly on time at up to 320 kmh - but on standard gauge rails - that rail gauge is 4 feet 8½ inches.

And why is it that gauge? It is what the Romans used it for their chariots and it was based on the beam of a Roman horses backside. Literally!
