August course placements
The Traditional Greenwood Chair workshop planned for August 1st to 7th / 10th now has four students booked, so only two places available still. We are in discussion with a facility just five minutes drive from 'Wildwood Gallery' at Fitzroy Falls to house ourselves and all students (if they wish) to experience a complete 'bodger camp' type experience. All you have to do is focus on making your chair with all meals provided etc.
To fit in with the accommodation facility, the dates for the October course are now Monday October 19th to 25th / 28th and for November Monday November 16th to 22nd / 25th.
I still haven't found time to figure out how to post any pics .... mmm but will work on it !!
Richard is busy working on Ladder-back chairs in a selection of Australian timbers which are looking fantastic. He has just completed a Windsor two seater settee which always gives a high sense of satisfaction given the risks involved with assembly of this or a three seater settee.
His journey finding the right Australian woods to use in the making of these chairs has been productive and he is now happy with the steam bending experimentation he has undertaken to ensure the best timber is used for the purpose.
Remember, get in touch on [email protected] if you want any further info on our Traditional Greenwood Chair workshops.

Wouldn't that be heaven. :dreaming: Prolly cost as much as a holiday, and you get a chair too.

Traditional Greenwood Chair workshops AU
Yes, Tea Lady, it is a holiday 'out of the ordinary' ... a holiday you will remember and get good feelings about for the rest of your life ..... if every other student we have ever taught is anything to go by ..... check out www.rbhchairs.com and click into 'workshops' to read some student critiques. It is probably a holiday that costs less than a normal holiday and as you say, you get to keep the chair !! As they say, 'A journey of a thousand miles ... begins with just one step' ... plan your dream and dream your plan ....

Traditional Greenwood Chair workshops AU
The August Traditional Greenwood Chair workshop is all systems go with five students confirmed, one place on course still available if anyone is considering the experience. Accommodation is booked and meals in the planning. For the first time we have spouses / partners coming as well which will add a new dimension to the evenings around the camp fire. We are looking forward to this 'in residence' workshop, a goal we have had for quite some time and now happening.
The October workshop dates have changed again .... back to October 12th to 18th / 21st with one student confirmed. If we don't achieve minimum numbers for this course by Sept 12th we will ask students to delay until the November workshop 9th to 15th / 18th with one student confirmed for that course already. Remember these workshops are an experience of 'taking a break from the ordinary' .... out of your comfort zone .... in a very good and positive way. A challenge worth taking.
If you are about at the Flora Festival at Kariong on the Central Coast Sept. 10th to 13th or the Tulip Festival at Bowral in the Southern Highlands Oct. 3rd |& 4th come and introduce yourself, say hello, as I will be demonstrating on the pole lathe / shaving horse this year and Gwynna will be tending the display of my chairs .... and other bits and pieces we craft as well.
Heres hoping more folk in Australia will be working with green wood and we can spread the message these old time skills and methods are the best you can get... especially when making chairs.

Richard B Hare
ps. working on next years workshop dates at present. Possibly early March / April / Sept / Nov. If any of you have any suggestions as to when you would prefer workshops to be held we invite you to let us know what time frames suits you best.Last edited by ChairmanHare; 2nd July 2009 at 01:29 PM.
