We are currently modernising the outside of a house we own. We've rendered the brickwork and replaced the pvc sidings with blueboard which I am currently jointing and rendering ready for painting. The next step is to modernise the front. Its very 1980's with a mean-looking verandah railing and skinny posts. I would like to widen the balcony a tiny amount and replace the railing with one of these boxed-in balustrades - probably with a single rail at the top. Like in the photo attached.

Now I want to research how to build this properly - but I don't know what this style of balustrade is called and cant seem to find much on google.

Can anyone suggest what this type of balustrade is called, or maybe point me to a resource on how to build it right.

Likewise I will need to box in the columns to keep them in proportion, and bring them out flush with the balcony. Any help there would be appreciated too.

cheers
Arron
