Connecting second floor bearer to brick wall below
Hi everyone,
I am putting in an attic floor, the loads from the floor will be transferred downwards through the existing internal brick walls (in some places).
If I have a bearer that will be running on top of a brick wall, how are they typically secured/connected to the brick wall below? Is this something that I would expect the engineer to specify and include in his drawing or is their a standard way of doing things?
Here is an example in picture format, the red would be the new bearer.
Also if I wanted to raise the height of the bearer so that it is sitting above the existing ceiling joists, how would I pack it out? Or would I just use a deeper piece of timber so that it is naturally higher?
Thanks
