Cutting brace in external wall frame
Hi All
I am trying to replace a window with a set of bifold doors in an external wall. It is a 2 storey brick veneer. The width of the opening will stay the same. It looked pretty straightforward to knock out the studs and brickwork from the sill down.
After removing the gyprock I see there is a metal brace running across the bottom corner. I would appreciate any advice as to what's involved in removing this. Photo is attached.
The jamb is about 700mm from the corner of the walls. I think I i would need to remove the gyprock between the jamb and the corner and add some bracing but not too sure if 700mm is going to give enough strength. From reading other threads it seems this might be an issue.
Or can I just snip the brace and not worry about it?
Also, is this the kind of work that will need council approval?
Many thanks. Chris
