Hi everyone,
i've been using this forum quite a lot in renovating my house and up until now, have found all the info without having to ask! But Im now about to embark on cutting an opening for a 4 metre wide set of bifold doors in an external wall in a double brick 1950's house. I'm having an engineer design the lintel etc and have got my head around supporting everything with acrow props/needles etc, so now what im not sure about is cutting the vertical sides in the brickwork. From the outside, the existing door jambs are inset about an inch (i.e. you will see the cut edge of the brick for about an inch)(painted) so im wondering how to get a straight/neat edge. In the past, ive used my 9'' grinder, but had architraves/render covering my messy edge. So just wanted to know if anyone can shed some experience on what i figure are the options: Either use the grinder and be extremely careful, or use a circular saw with masonry blade (this wont cut all the way through, but will at least make the part of the brick you will see neat and can then hammer the rest out) or use a wet demo saw?
Im guessing the demo saw is the best option, although they look fairly heavy and seems like it might be hard to hold stable enough to get a neat edge? Any advice/experience greatly appreciated!
Thanks
