Hi,

Our house is on stumps (800mm high) on low part of the street and when it rains, water collects at the backyard. My block is extremely flat, the houses to the side and behind me is slightly higher than mine. The road at the front of the house is practically the same height so getting water to flow to the front and into the storm water drain is an issue.

The lawn around the house is slightly higher than the ground of the stumps but around the edge of the house, it is a slightly higher than the lawn so I have a slight dam around the house so to speak.

My problem. Normally when it rains, nothing really happens. Only when I get a down pour, a bit of water collects at the back lawn. However, because of the rain last two days, the water has gone under the house. My guess is that I have 6 inches of water around my stumps.

I'm a bit concern about what it will do to the structural integrity of the stumps. Can someone give me a bit of advice? What can I do? I'm considering when it all dries out, get some road base from the landscape place and put it under the house (will be a painful task). Do you think it will help? Will road base absorb too much water or should I get clean fill?

Thanks in advance.

Stressed.
