floor joists for 2nd story extension
hi guys,
i would just like to know if there are any downfalls to putting floor joists (hyjoists) over the current hardwood (which are bearing on bricks) for a second story extension.
instead of using 300mm joists, i could use 200mm joists spaced every 450mm AND they are being supported by the current hardwood which are spanned no more than 4.2 metres with (guessing) 450mm spacing making it like a matrix, rather than just straight beams.
when i walk on the beams at the moment there are no signs of movement.
to me this seems like it will give me a REALLY rigid floor as i would have hardwood, then I beams and then yellow tongue over that.
or should i go for 300mm i beams spaced at 450mm intervals which have no support but bearing on the bricks (4.2m span)
this is what part of the roof looks like. (dont worry bout the cabling. all the electrical will be disconnected prior to any work being done..)
any opinions??
