    Default Repair to chipboard

    Hi ,

Would like to hear your thoughts on repair to chipboard.
The situtation is in a caravan where rain has entered under the door and wet the side of the dining area. The area swelled and now ,when dry has flacked and fallen apart.

Can the area be somehow sealed (eg sanding sealer) and then filled with a wood filler or spac filla and then sanded back and painted.

Would appreciate your thoughts and advice.

    Regards Schaf.

    Thumbs down

Once chipboard gets wet it loses all of its structural strength, as you have no doubt observed.

The best shot would be to replace the panel, if you can. And even better replace it with some marine ply, or ply at the least which will also save some weight in the process and be more resistant to future possible water damage...
