Replacing verandah posts
I have Oregon veranda posts that are stating to rot at the bases. They sit on the joist at the end of the deck, skew nailed down. So water has pooled at the base, in the hollow where the decking is cut away.
I need to replace them and can go about it one of two ways:
1. Replace them exactly the same way but with new treated pine posts
2. Bolt stirrups to the joist and shorten the existing posts to suit
Thoughts/advice?
