Hi all

We have bought a block and we are in the process of designing a house to suit the block....I have designed the attached Sketchup house and floor plan. I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the 9000 x 6000 (open plan kitchen/dining/lounge) blue house section. There would be no supporting internal walls to reduce the roof beam span of 9000. I have used a span calculator to determine profile, spacing and type of beams but wanted to get some human insight. The roof would be colourbond and we were thinking of using ply sheets as the underside ceiling.

I have built a free standing skillion design 7000 x 4500 building on a friends rural property and used recycled (give or take a few millimetres 100 x 45 hardwood rafters) with colourbond roof but the above design features a much greater span/internal space.

It would be a steel subfloor system as we are in a medium BAL firezone. The sky deck in this design is a bit of fun but probably impractical so ignore please.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Regards
Tim
