Hi all

I have an old house (40's) that has a fair bit of lichen on it. the building inspector when i bought it 2 yrs suggested i get the roof done soon bewcause the tiles were clearly becoming porous evidenced by the lichen and also the fungus on the tile battens underneath. I got a quote from a well known company here which was over 10K! largely due to the house being on a sloping block so need scaffolding arouind 2/3rds the house for safety reasons. I didnt go ahead with it. One of the guys who did the quote and inspection told me on side away from the salesman that he thought the tiles were actually in pretty good nick.

I got back to the inspector who said " well just clean it and seal it" but wasnt specific as to what proiduct to use other than a silicon based product that absorbs into the tile. A bit like the stuff you use on bathroom grout to seal.

Sorry about the speal but wanted to paint the picture! Can anyone suggest what product to use to just seal it. Dont really care about the price as i am up against 10K !! and certainly not paying that. I have already pressure cleaned a section of the roof and other than needing new ridge cap bedding it looks 100% so plan just to seal it myself.

I have been to bunnys and the only product there that looks ok is a "Thompson" product. Any suggestions please?

thanks.
