Rafter Warps

Hi All

I have rafters with a fairly large unsuported span on non-coupled roof. Anyway, timber being timber there are bound to be some warps in the rafter timber. Obviously in the vertical direction any bow would go upward so that the roof weight would try to flatten it. However what about the lateral direction? Should it just be accepted or should I try to straighten them using the battens etc.?

The problem from my point of view is that I think it is the scope of the roof tiler to fit the battens and the plasterers to install the ceiling battens. They wont care about straightening rafters.

My other thought was to add some nogging style timbers between the rafters to pull them into line if required??

Any comments appreciated.

If you are not fitting the battens use some temporary braces underneath the rafters to pull them all straight. Use temp noggins as well if needed.
Once the roof battens are on the rafters should stay straight.

One thing,
Keep half the bows to the right and half the bows to the left .
So that they cancel each other out and you end up with a straight roof.
