General advice

I have a 120 year old Victorian house that I am considering putting a second level on that house By all reports I wont be able to use the current double bricks as foundations or to sit bearers on those bricks due to their age or run joists across the current roof and leave the current roof infrastructure in place My question is what is stopping me using steel stumps similar to the products below and build around the house and then lay the new floor on that . I have the space on both sides to do this and the room will be only 3 m long by 2.5 wide

Thoughts welcome
