While in the end it will be the certifiers and chippies responsibility I'm always wanting to know more about what we can do ourselves.
Friday we installed the big beam [ 295 * 75 F17 LVL] so we could start to open up the kitchen and demolish the old laundry and veranda toilet
While being assured by tradies the building doesn't need any temporary bracing it is a good bit more shaky since removing the two walls and half the rafters.
How are long walls normally stiffened against movement when there are no short or stub walls along the length?
We of course will have a short wall for the pantry and I assume that being over 600mm deep that is all the 4000 length of wall will need.
Other directions of bracing have been talked about and if we need to put ply bracing on the ceiling joists I'd like to start the planning now as we can do a lot using the pantry space by using braceply on the ceiling as well as walls
Plans call for melamine board as lining but I assume that product is only nominal bracing
A little overbuilding is a good thing in our tradies opinions as in ours and whacking a few sheets of braceply up is an easy thing to do
