Brisbane Timber Floor advice - prepolished, timber type etc?
I've just finished renovating my downstairs rumpus and want to get some timber floors put down - I've been investigating the various options and I'm not sure which option to go with!
It's about 30sqm and will be high traffic - it's the media room, my wife's exercise space, computer area and entertaining space It's currently a concrete slab which is very flat/smooth and about 25 years old so I am not too worried about moisture at this point . I'm not confident undertaking a job of this size myself (I've just built the rumpus from scratch but still, floors need to look good!) so I'm getting someone in to do the work for me.
I want a floating floor, preferably with 80mm+ timber - hardwoods, hardier the better!
1) Any recommendations for a good company in Brisbane to take care of the whole thing - laying, sanding, polishing.
2) Timber recommendations? We like midrange colours, not too dark, not white. We've liked spotted gum, ghost gum, blue gum etc in terms of colours. Should we be aiming for a specific really hard timber that won't wear very easily? Is there a high traffic hard wearing timber?
3) Is prepolished timber any different in terms of wear or finished look? I don't mind clearing out of the house for a week if it's going to mean better looking or longer wearing timber. Just don't want the prepolished stuff to be really easily marked or have obvious lines between the boards or anything silly!
Thank you - I've learnt a lot just lurking in these forums for my period of renovation madness already
