I chickened out of sanding and polishing my own floor after reading advice on the forum, and had it done professionally. Under incandescent light, I can clearly see sanding marks from an orbital sander (probably 15mm circles), and I reckon I would have done a better job of this stage of the sanding. They extend over wide areas of the floor. There is already a coat of oil on the floor. Not ever having had a critical look at a floor job before, I need to know just how fine a job can be expected, but I would have thought that removing sanding marks before coating would be part of it.

I don't think the marks will be noticeable most of the time, but they are definitely there if you look and seem to be affecting the level of gloss to a minor degree. 130mm Vic Ash and Treatex hardwax oil, so not a real high gloss anyway.
