Stumping alternatives?
Planning on Building Dream home (of course).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Unfortunately our local geotechnical specialist has told us as there is undermining in the local area (NOT under our block) that in future some subsidence may occur where we plan to build.

The undermining is approximately 170m down and 100m away from our building pad.

The geotechnical engineer has made the recommendation to council however of only allowing stumped houses on the block.

I would prefer a brick / slab house myself for a variety of reasons including insulation etc.

My question (finally) is are there viable alternatives to stumping that may be acceptable to council, bearing in mind that I don't quite know the differences between normal slabs and waffle pods etc.... just heard that they are better.....?

Any comments / suggestions would be welcome.

There are lots of areas out your way that are undermined or maybe the word should be OVERmined. I went to primary school in ipswich and quite a few houses around our school disappeared into the ground, we used to play in them on our way home, crazy!
As for your question I don't know of an alternative IMHO I'd go with the engineers recomendations, subsidence will do more damage to a slab than stumps.
