    Default Width of outdoor stairs?

I am building some outdoor stairs to my deck, how wide can I go before I need a centre stringer.
    I am using 50mm hardwood.

    G'day.
    It depends.
What is the thickness of your stringers?
If 50mm, I would not go wider than 1200mm.

    Hooroo.

In general 1200 but in certain cases you can 'cheat'
How wide would you like them and are they freestanding, that is, their not being fitted in between walls.
