I believe that it is actually illegal over here. The pipework must be wrapped in thin foam to allow for the different expansion and contraction of the copper vs plaster

Mate cold watwer is usually fine to render over, hot water needs to be lagged, which the normal kemlag will handle no worries. If your really worried, or if local SA standards state you need to protect them use kemlag for both hot and cold, kemlag is just the copper pipe with the green cover on it. With brass as long as the brass is DR rated it should be fine, after all ive pulled bras and copper out of walls that have been there for 60yrs plus and they where fine.
