Thread: Installing washing machine in unit??

Not uncommon in the UK to have a front loader fitted into the kitchen cabinets. Do not know the regulations here though.

I'm not sure about the regulations but as long as the plumbing and electrical (if needed) are professionally done then it would be safe virtually anywhere in the house as long as it's a stable surface etc.

I'm not sure about getting a sink to fit on top - at best there would have to be a 60mm gap needed under the benchtop to shoot the sink waste pipe to the back of the cabinet. I think the sink height might be a bit too high - otherwise there is no reason why not if you can get a small front loader.

I think front loaders are about 650 deep and again you will need at least 50mm at the back for hoses etc. maybe go out and measure some front loaders?

I dont believe there are any regulations governing the location of you washing machine, but if you have the option your bathroom should be the best location.
It is probably already a wet area with a floor waste so if you have a broken hose, loose waste or overflow, all them people that live under you will still brake when they see you crossing the road!
Caroma 40mm basin traps now come standard with a dishwasher spud for all the installations that now have front loaders in the bathrooms.

i think if you do some research the body corprate will say that you can't due to the current plumbing of the unit .
i put a dishwasher and washer dryer combo is a appartment in wellington st mosmon park that should not have been there i realise that it is wrong but what the body corprate doesn't know wont hurt them and if you are selling the appartment then shortly it wont be your problem .

Hi all, thanks for the fast responses! As for taking clothes off in the kitchen, we're planning on renting it out - I don't care if the tenants plan on walking around naked 24/7, as long as they pay their rent on time!!

I'm tending to go with what you say Rob, what the body corporate don't know won't hurt them - we'd make sure we get it done professionally, so there should be minimal problems.

sorry i do not know how to add the link ....one option to conside is the underbench side by side fridge and freezer it got rid of having a big fridge freezer in the kitchen and made a great breakfast bar with enough room for four people to sit down .

Yes you can do it,

You need to provide the ventilation asked for by the manufacturer, ( in the installation manual.)

Some washing mashines etc have been designed for this and come with a hose connection to connect to the trap of your basin/sink.

I recently did the bathroom in one of my units and moved the laundry from the bathroom in the unit, which is also on the top floor like yours to the garage. I was lucky that this is where the hot water tank is and the waste stack comes thru our garage, cost me $700 ( which I thought was expensive seeing as it only took 3 hours and I provided the tub and mixer, but it was the cheapest of 4 quotes) for the plumbing and $60 for electrical and had to be approved by body corp.
